What is the Super Duty Filter?

The AMSOIL Super Duty Oil Filter is a full flow oil filter designed for extended drain intervals and severe service. Its rugged filter body contains a high-tech blended filtration media composed of cellulose, synthetic and glass fibers. Their lightweight construction also makes them susceptible to degradation.

Conversely, the "surface-type" filter's weaknesses are the "depth-type" filter's strengths. A "depth-type" media generally displays excellent efficiency and capacity and is much more resistant to degradation. Increased oil flow demands, however, will push "depth-type" filter technology to new limits.

Capacity

Filter capacity is the amount of contaminants a filter media can hold without loss of oil flow and filtration. The Super Duty's advanced media blend, especially its cellulose and synthetic media, provides outstanding capacity. Plus, the strength and flexibility of these fibers allow tight pleating. Pleating dramatically increases media surface area -- the tighter the pleating, the more surface area -- and increased surface area increases capacity while maintaining outstanding flow.

Efficiency

Filter efficiency is a filter's ability to trap contaminants. The Super Duty Oil Filter's advanced media blend, especially its glass and synthetic media, offers tremendous efficiency, due to the fineness and uniform shape of their fiber strands.

Service Life

Service life is the period a filter allows proper oil flow while trapping and holding contaminants. The Super Duty Oil Filter's capacity plays a significant role in the filter's extra-long service life (12,500 miles or 6 months).

The filter's rugged construction plays an important role, too. For example, the Super Duty's steel coil spring, which centers the filter element inside the filter housing, springs back to its original shape after the filter's been subjected to shock loads. That helps the filter maintain its seal so oil flows through the media, not around it. Similarly, the Super Duty's fluted-rib spiral center tube stands up to pressures that may collapse the one-piece rolled tubes used in conventional oil filters. A collapsed center tube allows virtually all the oil to by-pass the filter media and circulate unfiltered.
